Adobe Firefly is Adobe's commercially safe generative AI β the 'commercially safe' part is the headline. Unlike Midjourney or Stable Diffusion (which were trained on internet-scraped data with murky copyright status), Firefly was trained exclusively on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public domain works. For brands and agencies producing commercial work, that distinction matters enormously.
The tool is baked directly into Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Express, which means it feels like a natural extension of your existing workflow rather than a separate app you switch to. Generative Fill in Photoshop is genuinely impressive β select an area, describe what you want, and watch it blend seamlessly with the surrounding image. The text-to-image quality sits in the midfield: better than DALL-E for photorealistic results, not quite at Midjourney's artistic peak, but fully adequate for commercial production work.
The integration with Creative Cloud is both its greatest strength and its biggest constraint β if you're not in the Adobe ecosystem, there's much less reason to choose Firefly over competitors. But if you are an Adobe user, this is a no-brainer addition to your toolkit. Generative credits come bundled with Creative Cloud plans, so you're likely already paying for it.
